Marchesa: Georgina Chapman
As far as designers go, Georgina Chapman is one gorgeous designer. Based in New York, Chapman hails from London and is one-half of the duo behind Marchesa, a long-time favourite of red carpets and socialites.

Apart from looking immaculate at events and runways, she’s also the picture of perfection when she’s 5 months pregnant:

Apart from designing one of New York’s high-profile labels, Chapman is married to Harvey Weinstein, who was the co-founder of Miramax and currently runs the Weinstein Company. She is the daughter of Brian Chapman, millionaire businessman and owner of the organic coffee company, Percol.

For a woman who seems to lead such a charmed life in both her career and personal life, her designs for Marchesa reflects her sophistication and are a sight to behold.

With frocks as dramatic and as elaborate as these, it does not come as a surprise when Georgina Chapman names escapism as one of her favourite themes. With built-in corsets and hand-placed feathers, Marchesa’s creations are often exciting and reminds one of a certain old-world Russian glamour.
It’s no wonder Marchesa is extremely popular with Hollywood celebrities for red carpet events or premieres, when her dresses are designed to always turn heads in admiration.
This April, Marchesa will be showing at the Audi Fashion Festival 2010, Singapore’s annual fashion event. I can’t wait to see the dresses up close! (:
In Singapore’s context, I think every girl will need a couple of cocktail dresses for weddings, formal family dinners, or company events like dinner & dances. I have to confess that I do not usually shop for events like this until the last minute, so it usually ends up in a mad shopping spree. I’m pretty determined not to repeat this in May, when I have two weddings to attend.
So, hopefully, Marchesa will give me a lot of good ideas for formal dresses for myself and some ideas for my friends’ bridesmaid dresses. (:
